Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Pray With Me This Christmas!

Distractions can pull us in all directions at Christmastime. It's hard to figure out how to celebrate the birth of Christ in a meaningful way when there are gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and events to add to the calendar. But what if right now, we made a plan to be...

5 Years of Threadbare Prayer

There is something about October that pulls my heart back to simple prayers. I suppose it might be because my wandering heart has been tuned to this song of lament over and over again. A few years ago I started writing Threadbare Prayers on my blog during a wilderness...

Books That Pass The Test

We love books at our house.  I was thinking the other day, that we could use about 20 more book shelves!  We are overflowing with more books than we have space to fit.  But the books that pass the test, are the ones we want to read over and over again.  They become...

Chair Time

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 He is the same. He does not change. The same God who flung the stars into place, has created a story just for you to shine in. The same God who led His people out of slavery wants to set you free...

Prayer

As I was sitting down to write this post, a quote by Max Lucado popped up in my Twitter feed: The power of prayer is not in the one who says it but in the One who hears it. You know what I think?  He wants us to lean in a little closer so He can whisper this great...

My Family Is Like…

I was reminded the other day how my family is something like a quilt.  It is comfortable, familiar, and a bit worn around the edges.  Each of us make up a part of it, and our lives are pieced together by the moments that define us. Birthdays, cookouts, and...

What I Had Planned

This past weekend I was supposed to jet of for my first real girl's get away weekend in over two years.  I  told you all about it last Friday. I was very excited and truly in need of some time of refreshment.  My gracious husband encouraged me to go and agreed to keep...
