Over the years, this by far has been one of my most viewed blog posts. It dates back to 2010. I have updated it with a link to a set of Free Scripture Cards inspired by my new book, Being OK With Where You Are.
Last month I posted this to do list:
Since so many of you asked, I wanted to let you know how I am making Scripture more visible in my home. This week, I focusing on low or no budget items. I call it ‘using what you have.’
Chalk Boards – by far are one of the most inexpensive and fun ways to share Scripture daily with your family! I have several all over the house – in the kitchen, near my entry, and in my girl’s bathroom. Here is one of mine that sits next to my coffee pot:
Look at what my friend **Tracie did! She is so creative she painted an entire door!
Genius!
Frame it – I know it is simple to think of using your computer and printer to simply frame a favorite verse, but sometimes it is the simple things that work the best. Why not frame one of my free Scripture cards? There are 10 to choose from like this one:
I think the point is to be purposeful. Isn’t that the reason we make To Do Lists anyway? I know that I want my girls to be surrounded by God’s Word. I know that I want it to richly dwell in my heart. I think this is what the Lord intended when He said:
Deuteronomy 6:6-9
Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.
(The Message Translation).
May God give us creative ideas to be faithful to His Word!
What about you, how do make Scripture visible in your home?
xo,
Stacey
LOVE the message translation! and love that this important command has been working in the hearts of so many!
Great post, very informative. Keep up the good work, Thanks.
I love the ideas! When we first moved in, we were able to get some Scripture put up in our kitchen and living room. It is the first thing you see when you walk in either the garage door or the front door. I’d love to put some in the bedrooms, too.
Thanks Sherry, I would love to see a picture of your wall words! What a great first impression you are making for your family and friends who enter your home.
I am looking for a creative way to get scripture on the mirror of my girls bathroom – thinking that as they see themselves they will see God’s Word written over them. Do you know if the wall words work on mirrored surfaces?
Hi! I print out the scripture on a colored piece of paper and put it in page protector and hang it in the girls’ bathroom on the mirror…I change it out about every month or so….they love it when they can say it without looking at it! I also put the same scripture on teh front of the fridge so they see it again when they open the door!
Thanks Laurie! If you don’t mind me asking – how do you hang it on the mirror? I like being able to change it out every so often!
Great idea to have them memorize it too!
Similar to Laurie, we hang a lot of scripture in the bathroom as well. We actually hang ours in the shower with a suction cup and sheet protector. That way while we are starting our day off with a shower we can be memorizing God’s Word too. We also write with dry erase markers on the top of our mirror and wipe it off each week. Dry erase markers are also a great way to surprise your husband with a good morning message! 🙂
Love the chalkboard. Used to have one hanging in my childhood bedroom. When I went home to visit my mom, I’d have my kids write encouraging messages for her on it. Often, they included scripture. She’d leave them up until the next visit.
Oooh… I LOVE that “Only one life” frame! I have a couple of frames sitting with nothing in them; I think I’ll make my own with them. Thanks for the GREAT ideas! ♥ Michelle
I love this post with the photos of how you make “scripture visible in your home.” I have had chalkboard decorations for years. It was not until last year, I started using them for scripture or encouraging words.
Thank you for this post.
