Psalm 100

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.  Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.  Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.  Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise.  Give thanks to Him, bless His name.  For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generations.

The first Scripture that was uttered in our country was filled with joyful adoration of our Lord and thanksgiving for all that He had done.  The band of weary Pilgrims had suffered much, but their hearts were bursting with thanksgiving.  As I peek at this passage of scripture I am struck by their choice.  They could have chosen any passage to claim their first night in a new land.  But this one, sprang from their hearts and lifted itself to the heavens.  Here is what I am reminded today as I read it:

  • Joy is the right response to all situations.
  • I am to serve Him gladly – in all things, even unknowns.
  • It is He who made me – He has all rights to my life.
  • He is Lord, God, and my Shepherd – my protecter, provider, my purpose for living.
  • He is worthy of my praise.
  • His goodness and faithfulness lasts forever – I can not out live it, out run it, out last it.
  • If I follow Him, He will lead me on the greatest adventure.

Oh how grateful I am for these brothers and sisters in Christ who in the face of great peril, chose gratitude.  Their vision and trust in my Shepherd has given birth to the life I live today.  May I be as faithful.  May my children hear gratitude coming from my lips in all situations.  And may God always be praised in this sweet land that we call home.
