In a house full of girls you can imagine that time in the kitchen can get pretty crazy. My girls love to cook! While in my heart I dream of us all sitting around the table together making cookies and laughing, it can in reality get pretty competitive with everyone trying to help. To keep this at a minimum, we have recently started making kitchen duty a chore zone. Each week my girls are given a new chore zone to work in. When they have the kitchen zone, along with cleaning and dishes it is also their week to help me cook. I let them plan a meal with me, write down the grocery list, and cook at least one meal start to finish. This has been a huge hit in our home! Each girl bursts with pride as she serves the meal she has prepared. They also learn how much work goes into feeding a family of six. And it makes the kitchen a much more peaceful place for mom, too.
Another idea that we enjoyed working on last school year was a cookbook called, “Mom & Me Cook.” Each week, we tried a new recipe and took pictures of us cooking together. We then put them into a cookbook like this with the picture and recipe on one page:
I love these sweet pictures and memories we have made. Plus, the girls had fun putting the scrapbooks together as well.

I love that you are scrapbooking your cooking! That will make one special cookbook! Visiting from the HSVillage.
I really like the the cookbook/scrapbook idea! Thanks so much for sharing!
It really was pretty simple! I bought a “Big Stack” scrapbook paper set, and we cut them about 6×6. I printed the recipe and a picture for each page. They added stickers – super easy! I called it Art time!
Thanks for stopping by Nikki! Love this fun link up with the HS Village today!
great idea! I haven’t scrapped in years – I’m too busy with the social media and blogging. 🙂
P.S. I don’t really scrapbook myself! But my girls love it!
I am determined to teach my boys how to cook their favorite things so that they will have happy wives.
Boys who cook would make very, very, happy wives! And if they cook half as good as there mama, they will have very grateful wives!
Love, love, love the cookbook idea!
I really love your idea of your cookbook. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Oh, what a great idea to have precious memories saved! I haven’t scrapbooked in years…
Oh, we should compare notes some day! I have both boys and we, too, are making family cookbooks for them to share with their own families some day. I wonder how the girls’ books will differ from the boys’! Perhaps they can swap a family recipe or two one of these days! 🙂
What a NEAT idea! You could photo copy them and make great Christmas presents, too!
I have a recipe similar to that one, and it is easy and VERY good! I like the idea of making the kitchen a chore zone. I’m going to have to re-think some things we’ve got going on here….

What a great post! I love the idea of your girls preparing the meal from start to finish. And the scrapbooking idea is wonderful. I love digital scrapbooking—just wish it would have been around when my children were little!
