Last Saturday, I felt the need to be creative and I whipped up a fall wreath for my front door. One thing you need to know about me, is that I am not a crafty girl. In fact, whenever I am with other women who are crafty girls, I have craft envy. So with that in mind, here is my Fall Wreath {un} tutorial. I did not take any photos during the process. It has been done far better in other places online. The truth is, my kids were running around like crazy people, and the camera would have been one more thing for me to manage. Besides, I had hot glued fuzzy burlap to my fingers and I’m not sure I could have snapped a photo.
Anyway….this is the finished project:
And here is my {un} tutorial:
- Buy a straw wreath and leave it in your laundry room for 8 months.
- Find a piece of fall material, in this case burlap that you misplaced.
- Rejoice that you found the piece of burlap that had been misplaced!
- Locate fall ribbon.
- Fire up that glue gun!
- Threaten children with no lunch if they touch the fired up glue gun.
- While you are at it, remind the children to stop running in the house while you are crafting. Or ever.
- Cut burlap into long strips with tiny school type scissors that do not cut worth a thing.
- Be very frustrated at your tiny school type scissors for not cutting worth a thing.
- Save at least one strip of burlap to fashion a flower.
- Wish you had saved 2 strips of burlap to fashion 2 flowers.
- One strip at a time, wrap the straw wreath with burlap.
- Tell the kids to stop running.
- Use hot glue to secure the burlap strips.
- Burn your fingers repeatedly.
- Once wreath is wrapped, stand back and admire your creation.
- Using the extra strip of burlap you saved, knot the end and twist and turn to make it into a flower.
- Hot glue it at the end. Burn your fingers again.
- Make another flower out of ribbon to add to your burlap flower.
- Hot glue flowers to the wreath.
- Hang with coordinating ribbon on your front door.
- Promise, to get more ribbon to make a 3rd flower.
- Realize you will probably forget to buy the ribbon, unless you are walking in the front door.
So there you have it. I know you can do this. {un} Crafty girls unite!

You are funny! And it is lovely! With Joy, Carey
This made me smile. :). Most of my projects go that way. I started a red wreath in February…and finally finished it last month!
Regardless of the process, your wreath is super cute!
I think that sounds like you are early for Christmas!!!
Jamie I see that in my future, too! My girls are all crafty. Crafting must skip generations! Have a great weekend!
This cracked me up! Sounds EXACTLY like how my craft projects go. But I think this turned out great! It’s super cute and I think perhaps even I could make it. Very well written (un)tutorial. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
