They loved. They were loved. They had babies. They sojourned. They walked by faith. They listened to God. They ran, too. Sometimes, they laughed.
On good days, they built boats that saved us all, offered God their most precious possessions, and blessed their children. On not so good days, they stole from their brother, manipulated their husband, and let jealously drive them crazy.
They lived a great story. I wonder, did they know it?
Did they know I would read it thousands of years later? Did they know that I would shake my head and understand? Did they know that their faith would spur me on and that their missteps would give me hope that I am no so different or out of the reach of God’s grace?
I’m guessing they did not see the script being written over their lives. I suppose,too, they did not know their names would be part of a Greater Story.
The Author, He knew. He saw. He poured out blessings that could not be exhausted. And because He is the very Word Himself, He wrote it all down for them and their children. Of which I am but one.
And this same Holy Author is writing my story, too. He dips His pen time and time again in grace and writes on my heart. I don’t always see the strokes and I rarely believe my storyline to be great. Most days, my story seems painfully ordinary.
But as I read this week, from Genesis to the end of Exodus, I saw myself between the lines. I saw ordinary men and women, like me, living our out their story written by an extraordinary God.
Through it all He reminded me that:
- He sees me {Genesis 16:13}
- Nothing is too hard for Him {Genesis 18:14}
- I never walk alone {Exodus 13:21}
- He fights for me, my job is to be still {Exodus 14:14}
- He dwells in the sanctuary of my offering to Him {Exodus 25:8}
For…”Who among the gods is like you, LORD? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?” Genesis 15:11
And the truth of the matter really is this: my story in the hands of the Word Himself is the best story I can live.

Question: What about you? Are you reading along with Bible in 90 Days? What has God written on your heart this week?
I have been reading the Bible through again this year and am doing so for the first time in chronological order, which has been very interesting. I had the VERY SAME thought as you did the other day while reading about King David. I wondered if he knew as he was living his life that we would be reading about him thousands of years later…it’s amazing how God weaves those stories into our lives as well.
I loved reading what God has reminded you in the last few readings…Exodus 14:14 is one of my all-time favorite verses!
Thanks Melissa! God is certainly opening my eyes as I am reading so much so quickly. I can’t wait to get King David! Stay tuned!
I’m really enjoying the reading days!!! This summer has started out amazing with this alongside the GMG study!!!! One Amazing Summer indeed!!!!! 🙂 Genesis 18:14 ~ when I read the first part “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” … sheesh! I sat back and “chewed” on that for a while. So powerful and so peaceful at the same time. Nothing is too hard for Him!!! <3 thank you for hosting this reading!!!!!!!!
I love that verse. Such a ‘rhetorical question’ that really does not require an answer from us. We know this is true! And look what God did – reading each day is showing me just how amazing He truly is. What a blessing!
Exodus 14:14 was one that jumped off the page and smacked me upside the head. I try to fight my own battles when the truth is they’ve already been won. I just need to step aside and let God be.
Oh friend! Isn’t it incredible that we are invited into the story of this great God?
I think sometimes we completely forget that we are still within the story, right between Jude and Revelation! There is just so much to learn and uncover. Some days I feel overwhelmed, but I remind myself to just keep reading!
