“There is always the word waiting in His Book, which will meet us where we are and carry us further on.”
Amy Carmichael, Thou Givest—They Gather
God’s Word has a way of meeting us right where we are. I have found it to be true this summer while taking this crazy good challenge to read the entire book in 90 days. I have seen with fresh eyes stories I’ve known and sung about since I was five years old. I have discovered new things I never knew were there. Each Day when I curl up in my big red chair to read, I know without a doubt, God has a word waiting for me.
This week, His book unfolded a promise that I once stood squarely on for the better part of a year and what seemed like a thousand days. I scribbled it on a piece of notebook paper and taped it to my borrowed refrigerator in my newly rented home located in a foreign land. I read it every day. Tears would swell. His promise to my heart would breath life. It carried me further on every day. Slowly, step by step, I saw Him do what He said He would do in one of my bathroom floor moments before we packed our van with our lives and loves and journeyed far.
Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19
Now, almost ten years later I am amazed at this Word, which is still a promise for my heart. And because He is God and He likes to add exclamation points to the power of His Word, my pastor brought it up today in his sermon. I love when God shows off like that. You know what I think? I think God is whispering to my heart that He is still in the business of doing new things. Maybe I’ll make a new old note, tape it my refrigerator, and circle this promise in prayer once more. Care to join me?

How has God’s Word met you right where you are? What Word has carried you further on recently? I’d love to hear from you….
Hi Stacey, I’m so blessed by this post. I have lived the past two and a half years with new eyes, a new heart, a renewed mind and spirit because when I was at my weakest He was at His strongest and He spoke Psalm 46:10 to me. It was a quiet whisper that has changed my life! It inspired my blog and a book. What grace and mercy He exhibits toward me. I love it when He shows off!
Thank you Diana – I love that you took that promise and are wrapping it around your life! Beautiful!
Hmm… love this encouragement. Reading the Word has always and will always transform.
