A few months ago I was on Facebook and saw an advertisement that said:
Click to “Like” Jesus’ Facebook Page.
Immediately I thought, “Well, I like Jesus.” And then I thought, “Does Jesus really need a Facebook Page?” This turned into a funny conversation with my daughter about Jesus being on Social Media. What if Jesus was on Pinterest? His boards would be like this: “Creation (Did that.)”, “The Book (wrote It.)”, ” and “People I Love (All of them.)”. We laughed and then the thought came to mind, “Jesus doesn’t need a Facebook Page, He just needs a place on yours.”
I believe in using Social Media for good. I love using my Facebook Status to share my faith. People are longing to hear and to take a peek into your life. Why not show them Jesus?
Not long after this, I received an email from my friends Laura and Angie. They had been thinking the same things, too. In fact, they wrote an ebook about it:
Just think about it. . .
- We have access to the biggest and most diverse mission field ever– people from every continent, every age group, both genders, and diverse economic and cultural backgrounds, who are logging in to the internet daily. Over 2 billion users log onto the internet regularly. Not to mention, the use of social media is on the rise. In a single day, approximately 700,000 people join Facebook and 300,000 people join twitter. Each day your mission field is being expanded by up to one million people! ( p11)
- Facebook is the country. And if you’re like 66% of American adults you’ve been there. In fact, you may be one of the 65 million people who carry this nation in your pocket.
- A mission field is nothing more than a gathering of people who need the saving love of Jesus. p 10
What if we got intentional to use our social media space for starting conversations and praying for our friends? What if we gave Jesus a place on our status updates, a few of our Tweets and a place on our Pinterst page? We might get to see lives changed for eternity.
Laura and Angie make it easy for you to start today. They will give you practical ideas on how you can intentionally begin to be missional about your online activity. Tonight you can join them for a Twitter party tonight at 9PM EST to get the conversation going using #reachebook.
You can find their newly released ebook right here and their website here. They even are forming “Reach” groups to find ways for people to work together. See, I told you they were making it easy for you.
Let’s do this thing and keep this in mind:
Social media is a tool for you to be able to get into conversations with people about Jesus. A tool to help you be about the mission God gave you, from the convenience of your very own living room. p 26
I have one copy of Reach to giveaway today. Leave a comment and tell me one way you have shared your faith using Social Media. Also, why not use your Social Media Influence to share this post. You can leave an extra comment when you do and tell me about it! I will post the winner next week!
I am the Media Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child SWMO (year-round volunteer). I admin our official FB page. I have personal Pinterest boards about OCC, Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief, and Worldvision. I am also a new blogger.
Love that you are on mission and focused!
Me and this other blogger I know gave away 26K+ of our book leading weary mamas toward the hope of Jesus. Does that count? 😉
I think that counts!
