I can’t wait to hear how God is meeting you in the pages of Being OK with Where You Are. Can I tell you a secret? These 3 chapters are the heart of my story. They were the hardest to write and the most rewarding. I’m praying they speak to your heart.

I can’t think of a better friend to have hang out with us today as our featured guest than Lara Williams: blogger, epic rapper, and author of an amazing book called To Walk or Stay. I’m a huge fan, and I know you will be blessed by her words.

Being OK by Lara Williams

“My 2 year old nephew has a saying that he repeats. I don’t care who you are or how much this world respects you in all your prestige, if you don’t give him what he wants, he scrunches his nose, points his finger at you, and declares to the world, “He (or she) is not nice!” We joke that his “nice” world would be dangerous pandemonium because 2 year olds would walk around with knives or jump off dressers.

But the truth is, my nephew’s too young to grasp how the world works. His immature reasoning cannot understand why candy isn’t the best dinner choice or why he can’t hold the ax. But we as the adults put on the planet to help steer him know that scaling the curtains could possibly end up really bad. So we say “no”. And we’re defined, “Not. Nice!”

What the heck does this have to do with you or Stacey’s awesome book? Well…everything. Because the truth is that we’re just like my nephew. We have finite, immature vision and we can easily declare of God, “You not nice!” Though we often say it with our faithlessness rather than stomping feet because we’re “mature”. Or not, depending on the time of the month.

God’s promises are either true or they’re not. He’s either faithful or He’s not. He’s either reigning sovereign over every aspect of His children’s lives or He’s not the God of the Bible. We get to choose what we believe in the moments of this day.

I don’t say that as some cheap Sunday School advice. I say it because God has absolutely proven Himself to be true to His Word in my own life. I’ve been the girl on my living room floor with my home falling apart at the seams, begging Him for a word of hope. And He spoke, “I will restore.” I’ve been the girl standing on His promise, not because I saw any proof with my physical eyes, but simply because He said it. And that’s enough.

Until Jesus comes back we’re going to have to walk through things we don’t like. But it’s in those times of suffering that God proves Himself sufficient. It’s in those times when we cling to Him for our very breath that intimacy with our Maker deepens. And that’s the place our soul comes alive.

We may be tempted to say to God, “You not nice!” And that’s ok. He can take it. But then let’s choose to remember. He sees the beginning from the end. And He’s working every single thing together for the good of His children. He’s kind and faithful and good and true. And He stands ready to meet us with unfailing promises in the midst of our darkest, uncertain days.

Which of God’s promises are you standing on these days?”

laragwilliamsSpeaker and author, Lara desires to reflect her Lord in the moments of today. “Only by His grace. And always in spite of me.” She has walked through valleys of death, addiction, and betrayal, and experienced the miraculous ability of God to bring victory in spite of circumstance. Lara describes the beat of her heart to be revival in the moments of fellow daughters of the King. Lara and her husband live in North Carolina with their lively, three young children.
