Two years ago I sat in a hotel room across from my friend Sara Hagerty. We were bonding over mom stories, writing, and having a few days off while attending the DOT Mom conference. Instead of going to dinner with the group, we opted for a pizza and two Diet Cokes in her room. It was during this chat that Sara told me about a dream of book. I had met Sara through the Mothers of Daughters Blog a couple of years before and always been moved by her words. I had no doubt her book would be more than a dream.
Last Spring this beautiful dream quietly showed up at my door. Sara asked me to be an early reader for her words.
I read it in one weekend with tears streaming down my face. My heart was still reeling from the loss of my daddy and her words were broken beautiful to my fresh grief. I was honored to offer my small words of praise:
[callout]“God is still in the business of giving beauty for ashes. Sara’s story proves it. Stunningly honest and moving. You don’t just read this book, you experience it.” STACEY THACKER Co-Author of Hope for The Weary Mom[/callout]
I can’t tell you how stunningly beautiful this book is. You will just need to trust me and read it for yourself. The publisher shares this:
“In Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet, Hagerty masterfully draws from the narrative of her life to craft a mosaic of a God who leans into broken stories. Here readers see a God who is present in every changing circumstance. Most significantly, they see a God who is present in every unchanging circumstance as well.
“Whatever lost expectations readers are facing—in family, career, singleness, or marriage—Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet will bring them closer to a God who longs for them to know him more. What does it look like to know God’s nearness when life breaks? What does it mean to receive his life when earthly life remains barren? How can God turn the bitterness of unmet desire into new flavors of joy?
“With exquisite storytelling and reflection, Hagerty brings readers back to hope, back to healing, back to a place that God is holding for them alone—a place where the unseen is more real than what the eye can perceive. A place where every bitter thing is sweet.”

I would love to win a copy of this book!!! This is something I need right now because my husband is a civilian contractor stationed in Afghanistan and I’ve been so down lately missing him. I need to realize that God put us on this journey for a reason and I need to see the goodness of the outcome God has in store for us. Right now, I just feel so lonely and I miss my hubby. My husband has been over there for over a year already and won’t be home until May 2015. This is his 3rd time working overseas. The first two were in Iraq from 2004-2007 and again from 2008-2010. His total time working overseas so far is 7.5 years. We’ve been married for over 14 years, but it doesn’t get any easier. I miss him now more than I ever have before. We have 2 sons who are 13 & 11 and they miss their daddy too. Thank you for the opportunity to win this book!!!
