Sometimes I wish I could do more. I dream of jetting off to places all over the globe to make a difference. Once when I was in college I had a chance to spend time in the country of Albania with some of the most beautiful people I have ever met. It was a life changing experience.
These days though, I am in a season of stay. I have four very active girls ranging in age from 5-15 and a husband who travels a great deal. I would love to go ye therefore to all the world, and maybe someday I will. But for now, I go ye therefore to the kitchen and make breakfast. I go ye therefore to the van to drive them to all the places they need to be. I go but I stay too.
But still, my heart longs to make a difference in some small way. Even more than that, I long to show my girls you can make impact the world right where you are.

I met Kristen Welch a few years ago through blogging. She lives in Texas and is a mom pretty much like me. Several years ago she went to Kenya on a trip of a lifetime with Compassion International. It changed her and God called her to a critical mission to rescue pregnant teenage mothers in that country who have nowhere else to turn. Her ministry is called Mercy House Kenya has and always had a special place in my heart, because I have girls, too. I can’t imagine them being alone, pregnant, and hurting.
Last year a friend invited her to see something NOT in Kenya, but in downtown Houston. It was a group of refugee mamas who were struggling to help their families survive. Kristen already had a ministry in Africa, but she could not help do something about what she saw down the street from her house. She knew this desperate look. So once again she said yes.
That day a new idea was born called the Fair Trade Friday Club. The concept is simple.

Each box tells a story because each box is filled with beautiful handmade items made by women who are wives and mothers like you and me. They create beautiful things, sell them to the Fair Trade Friday Club for a good price, and these items are then sent to club members like you and me.

I know you can run to Target for a pair of earrings, or go to a local boutique for a unique birthday gift for your best friend. I do that, too. There are a couple of different options for you to choose from with Fair Trade Friday Club. You can opt to get a box monthly (FYI Christmas is coming, be prepared), a one time box, or sign up for the earring of the month club.
I had a friend once tell me, “Once you know, you are responsible.” When I found out about Mercy House Kenya few years back I could not NOT know about it. My nine year old and I pray most every night for the moms and babies who live there. When I heard Kristen talk about the Fair Trade Friday Club last summer, my heart was stirred once more. Maybe yours is too. I don’t want to put any pressure on you at all. I just can’t NOT tell you about this wonderful group of moms. They make beautiful things. You can buy them. And you can do a world of good.
