Galatians 2:21 “I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
{Set aside- disregard, nullify}
{Righteousness – condition acceptable to God}*****
Why on earth would I ever willfully set aside the Grace of God? Me, who stands so in need of it everyday, how could I disregard it like yesterday’s bad news?
Well, I do it every time I…
- exchange the Truth of God for a lie.
- put on my own righteousness instead of clothing myself in His Grace bought garments.
- depend on my silly self-sufficiency and refuse His power that works through me.
- act as judge and jury for those I think should know better.
- take responsibility for outcomes that are not my own.
Yeah, I do that and more. But the good news is for this Grace nulifier is that where sin increases, grace increases all the more. {Romans 5:20}
“The first thing we must surrender is all of our pretense or deceit. What our Lord wants us to present to Him is not our goodness, honesty, or our efforts to do better, but real solid sin. Actually, that is all He can take from us. And what He gives us in exchange for our sin is real solid righteousness”
Oswald Chambers
Thanking Him today that He wants my ugly and that at this halfway point of my One Word Grace journey – Grace is increasing.
How have you seen Grace increasing in your life? Do you, like me, ever nullify the Grace so freely given? How can we join in praying for each other on this Grace journey?
Galatians 1 : Grace breaks through
Galatians 2 (part 1) : Grace recognized
Great points, Stacey. Though we may not want to intentionally set aside this glorious Grace, yet we do when we make choices like those you listed here.
Ever thankful for His forgiveness and grace and new chances for renewal!
And the idea that even as we do it, His grace is increasing. Pretty amazing, isn’t it? Thanks for stopping by Caroline!
I have experienced this grace this weekend. I messed up pretty bad a few days ago and someone I know and love had the grace to point it out to me in love and help me correct it. I was feeling pretty bad about myself and was feeling like the worst person on Earth. But, I looked into the sky that night and saw the most beautiful moon I had ever seen. It was God’s way of telling me, “It’s alright, daughter. People mess up, but I still love you. And ________ still loves you too. I am giving you grace.”
I was reading in Romans 1:20 this morning about how worshiping God our creator puts our lives in perspective and gives us direction. So glad you experienced His grace and His grace through others!
And it increases when we need it most!
Man am I thankful for His grace! I need it over and over and over, etc…….! I thank God for His grace and mercy that pours out to me and my family and pray that I will show others that same grace! I’m continually amazed by His amazing grace:)) Thanks for these posts…..I’ve enjoyed!
Good article. Just a reminder that we are all sinners, saved by grace. God wants us to give it all to God, so we can except His grace and mercy, not pretend that we are perfect, and don’t need His forgiveness. “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Luke 5:32
Great is His faithfulness for calling sinners like me! thanks Grace for this reminder!
A soul searching question indeed. Why do I set it aside? This grace so freeing. Why do I let myself back into the prison cells you listed above? I join in the gratefulness for His wanting my ugly so I can become.
