God has always been a fan of the buddy system.
Adam had Eve.
The animals came two by two.
David had Jonathan.
Jesus had 12.
Paul had Silas, Timothy, Barnabas and Mark.
You were made like Him, and He is the perfect strand of 3.
Who encourages you? When was the last time you sat across the table from her or shared your cheesecake? Did you notice that when you parted, you were stronger, just by being together?
A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12
God wants you to know He made you to fit with others. The best of the best are those who share your heart and passion for Him. Those cords are the strongest. I know relationships take time, I struggle to maintain them in my life as a busy mom of four. But every effort is blessed.
Now, for something fun! One of my favorite writers and (in)Couragers is Holley Gerth. I’m looking forward to seeing her this week at the Relevant Conference. She is a writer for Dayspring and one of the amazing women behind (in)Courage. She has the sweetest new book called “God’s Heart for You.”
She has graciously sent me 2 copies, and I’m giving them away today! If you win, you get to keep one and give the other to your BFF. Just leave a comment and tell me how you met and what is your favorite thing to do together. I’ll announce the winner next week!

Our October 31 day journey of What God Wants You to Know is almost finished! I hope you will keep stopping by this weekend, some of my favorite posts are in the queue ready for you and your morning coffee. If you missed any posts, check out the summary page here.
Megan and I met through a scrapbooking party someone in our Sunday school class had 18 years ago. (The ironic thing is that I don’t scrapbook… I went just for social reasons!) We started talking and connected immediately, and 18 years later she is the strongest iron sharpening iron friend I’ve ever had.
Our favorite thing to do is to get together for lunch or coffee (which is rare as we have busy lives with work and families) and just talk. I’m so grateful God brought her into my life all those years ago as there is none other besides my husband who loves me unconditionally like she does. She is truly a “Jonathan” in my life.
Have a wonderful time at the Relevant conference, dear friend!
My first day of college, 500 miles from anyone I knew, God gave me the perfect room mate and girl who would become my best friend! We would room together all 4 years of college – we loved watching FRIENDS during study breaks and having lunch dates at the dining hall. Afther graduation, she moved to Puerto Rico and our favorite activity became talking on the phone! She was a bridesmaid in my wedding 2 years ago and this March I am a bridesmaid in her wedding! What a blessing she has been to me 🙂
We met through our husbands who met on Twitter when we moved to Indy. Jenni was my first new friend! We love to sit at Starbucks and chat with no kids if course!
I have been blessed with friends who share my heart, even when doing life together is impossible. I’ll never quite understand what God has brought so many precious women into my heart, only to have our course separated by seasons or miles. Regardless, I’m thankful for the besties I’ve had face to face, the luxury of phone and email to keep us together. And I know I treasures the ones still present in my life all the more.
Laura and I met at church. She is a woman full of the JOY of the Lord, despite rough circumstances. We love to go out for coffee, talk for hours, watch movies together and just laugh toghether!
The first time I met my best friend over 25 years ago was in bible study fellowship. She was sitting next to me and we just began to talk and then we continued to meet and eventually became ‘best friends’ we have gone through many times of good and bad but we have stayed together and it is a blessing I always thank God for.
I have a wonderful friend named Michelle who came into my life unexpectedly. She’s such an uplifting woman, and I’m very thankful to have gotten to know her. We actually went to high school together and just never really connected there….but as adults, we’re very good friends 🙂 I’m so thankful for friends like her!
I have a friend Cara, who I am actually getting together with tomorrow night! We like to meet for dinner and chat, watch a movie or go shopping. It is nice to pick up right where you leave off with someone even if you don’t keep in constant communication.
My bff and I met thru a mommy board 4 years ago. It was her, 2 other gals and I. Though we still talk to one of the other gals Shannon and I have become very close. We share a lot of things in common, such as the fact that we both lost out mothers at a young age. We both have 2 daughters and for some reason even though we live very very far apart (Me, California and her Michigan) we have met up twice and share this great bond. WE are very very different but that has never stopped us from caring and loving each other dearly. I thank God for her and I know that she feels the same way towards me. Even though we may only see each other once a year, when we do it seems as though we had never been apart. Truly blessed – Sonia
I’m blessed to have a friendship with Karen. I met Karen through our local MOPS group. It is so nice to have a sister in Christ to share struggles, praises, prayers, laughters, and tears with! She is such an encouraging, and God loving woman and I am blessed to have her in my life.
Okay, so the giveaway has finally prompted me to leave a comment. I discovered your blog from the list of 31 days bloggers at a time when I really needed to know what He wanted me to know. So many of your posts have been right on time and target for me. Thank you for a beautiful series.
Now onto my BFF. We met 2 years ago.. I knew about her as an acquaintance in the expat community in which we both lived. Knew she was a Godly woman and a supermom with 6 beautiful kids! (I was bait intimidated to say the least). I started studying Proverbs 31 and was really struggling with parts of it. One day during my prayer time I was asking God for help and he told me to call Sara. I finally obeyed 3 weeks later. She has been a blessing and an encouragement to me ever since. We have our best talks when we are running together.
Jess, it thrills my heart that God has spoken to you here, in this series! I’m so glad to meet you and that you said, ‘hello’. Love your sweet story about Sara! Some time we have to be brave don’t we? And God always blesses when we do!
My best friend and I met in a women’s small group Bible study in college. I liked pretty much everyone in the group, but this one person and I just clicked. I guess we were the same kind of weird and goofy college freshmen. WE live just far enough away that we only get to see each other a couple times a year but when we do, those times together are my favorite things. It doesn’t matter if we’re just sitting around, watching movies or eating together. Sometimes it’s just good to actually see someone in person rather than talking on the phone or on email.
