Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Pray With Me This Christmas!

Distractions can pull us in all directions at Christmastime. It's hard to figure out how to celebrate the birth of Christ in a meaningful way when there are gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and events to add to the calendar. But what if right now, we made a plan to be...

5 Years of Threadbare Prayer

There is something about October that pulls my heart back to simple prayers. I suppose it might be because my wandering heart has been tuned to this song of lament over and over again. A few years ago I started writing Threadbare Prayers on my blog during a wilderness...

What I Wore

Four Things I Learned In July

1.  God's word was written to give us instruction and hope. This may not seem like a big deal, because really in the back of my mind I should know this. I do know this. But what I learned this month while preparing for a talk I gave at She Speaks is it is written in...

The NEW Mothers of Daughters

My girls are growing up fast. All my efforts to slow down time have gone fruitless. Today they are 13, 10, 7, and 3. Tomorrow they'll be 23, 20, 17, and 13. I am challenged every day by their need for me to be the mother God created me to be. I want to get it right,...
