Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Where Joy Shines Best.

I might have known when I picked my word for the holiday season that I'd have a chance to to dig deep and find the true meaning of the word. I should have expected the opportunity to put on my God sized glasses and look intently for it among the twinkling lights and...

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday friends! I know the first day back to life after vacation can be tough. Go ahead and have an extra cup of coffee. It will help, I promise. It may also help to wear a pair of red shoes. Wear them even if you are doing dishes and chasing babies all day...

The Joy Dare {Complete}

We have this tradition of brown paper covering tables on Thanksgiving and scribbling down gifts. It may not be fancy but it is rich. We have no fine china in our house, or matching dishes from Great Grandma. But, the blessings flow, and we say grace for it all. The...

The Joy Dare

This week they pulled on ballet shoes and tutus and I drove them back and forth more than I didn't. I watched the Nutcracker a total of four times start to finish and I got teary eyed every performance. I fed them way to much fast food and we didn't hit the books as...

Pin The Word {Philippians 4:8}

Today I'm starting a new series called "Pin the Word". Each pinnable image will feature a Truth from God's Word. My prayer is that these verses will encourage your heart. I know I need a little reminder to memorize God's Word. I'm going to be focusing on these verses...

5 Minute Friday

The 5 minute Friday prompt is Stay... I'm standing in her kitchen and my husband is in the van waiting for me.  My dear friend says, "It is harder to stay. You have it so much better." I can't think of how this can be true. I'm about to drive 20 hours in a over packed...
