Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Pray With Me This Christmas!

Distractions can pull us in all directions at Christmastime. It's hard to figure out how to celebrate the birth of Christ in a meaningful way when there are gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and events to add to the calendar. But what if right now, we made a plan to be...

5 Years of Threadbare Prayer

There is something about October that pulls my heart back to simple prayers. I suppose it might be because my wandering heart has been tuned to this song of lament over and over again. A few years ago I started writing Threadbare Prayers on my blog during a wilderness...

I Hope You Dance

I hope you dance. Just for the pure joy of it.  I hope you dance because it makes God smile.  I hope you dance because you can.  I hope you dance whether there is a trophy or not.  I hope you dance because this is always how I will remember you. Me in the wings, you...

What I Wore :: Summer Bags and Shoes

Last week, my sweet friend Angie (who has a great new blog) tweeted that she was trying to resist the urge to buy a new bag for summer. I answered that I was, too.  My friend Brooke chimed in, and then I had the crazy idea that they needed to Twitter meet because they...

What She Said…

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to hear from Priscilla Shirer at the Going Beyond Simulcast, which was recorded live at my church.  Here are a few things from this amazing event, that she said... I am not going to be the woman I want to become if I don't make some...

The Joy Dare :: Joy is Everywhere

She is tiny and six and has been singing songs all week about how much she loves Jesus and her baptism day.  With gorgeous blue skies and many of her pastors in the water waiting, she stepped into the water hanging on to her daddy for dear life.  The waves grew and...

FYI

School is out for summer. If you need me, and can't find me I'll be over at the swimming pool with my girls. They will probably ask me to play mermaids. I'll decline. But I will let them stay up later, eat way too much ice cream, and skip bath nights. After all, what...

A Day in the Life

I've been thinking about writing one of those posts called a day in the life. You know the kind where I would snap a photo and tell you pretty much everything I was doing all day long.  I love those type of posts because you get to see stuff like peanut butter on the...

What I Wore Wednesday

Oh girls, last week was so fun having Loft drop in on us! I was pretty nervous. Did it show?. I don't know why, but my usual WIWW posts feel very casual. I always think of it as a just you and me hanging out at the mall kind of a day.  But last week felt like a first...
