Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Pray With Me This Christmas!

Distractions can pull us in all directions at Christmastime. It's hard to figure out how to celebrate the birth of Christ in a meaningful way when there are gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and events to add to the calendar. But what if right now, we made a plan to be...

5 Years of Threadbare Prayer

There is something about October that pulls my heart back to simple prayers. I suppose it might be because my wandering heart has been tuned to this song of lament over and over again. A few years ago I started writing Threadbare Prayers on my blog during a wilderness...

The Birthday Question

The only question I get in regards to school and celebrating birthdays around our house is this: Do we have to do school on my birthday? It makes me laugh every time they ask!  I guess, this is one of the many gifts of home schooling.  You can and should set the books...

She Dresses Herself With Strength

Just say Proverbs 31 to a group of women and a chances are you will hear a groan rise up from the masses.  Most women, and I include myself in this group, see her as the phantom noble woman.  To achieve her status feels unattainable.  But the truth is, He put her...

The Best Of…{Cookie Edition}

I love cookies.  In fact, I could eat them all day long.  Yesterday I had a cookie for breakfast {my friend Angie claims this is no different than eating a donut, and I agree}.  My cookies are not pretty.  But they do taste good.  I am also not opposed to the cookies...

Unless The Lord Builds The House…

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves. Psalm 127:1-2 Join me over...
