Jesus never forces Himself on us or into any area of our lives where we do not welcome Him. So if we want Jesus to move in we have to make room for Him.
page 39, reading for December 14.
This little book has got me thinking about preparing my heart for Jesus as Christmas draws near. What needs to be done to make sure He is the most welcome guest? Have I given Him access to every nook and cranny of my heart? Do I need to let some things go to make sure I have time to sit and talk with Him? What needs to be done to dust off a place for Him to sit? What will I offer Him? Is there anything left for Him of me on His birthday?
I love Nancy’s heart felt prayer:
Jesus, we want to make room for you in our home and in our hearts, and we know that doing so may mean changing our schedules or changing our habits. Show us what needs to be moved out so there will be plenty of room for you to dwell here with us. (P.40)
Practically speaking, this Advent devotional is filled with gentle words to help draw my heart to His. Nancy includes a short devotion, scripture and prayer for each day. She also lists questions to discuss with your family to lead them into meaningful conversations about Christmas. I also love that from time to time Nancy shares a Christmas carol and the story behind the song. If you are a fan of Jesus Calling, this is a great Christmas companion to your daily reading.

This book sounds amazing. I could use the reminder to shift some priorities, especially during this time of the year, in order to make room for Him.

Don’t know if you knew this, but Nancy Guthrie was in BLC in Nashville. She has also written other books…I’ve heard she’s a great author….could sure use this devo right about now! Love you, dear!
That is so neat Gretchen! I did not know that! I read her book “Holding on To Hope” years ago and it had a huge impact in my life. When I saw this devotional I was so excited. I love her way with words and her heart. Thanks for letting me know!
This would be a wonderful addition to our family devotions during the Christmas season. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
I found your site from “My First Kitchen” and I think it was meant to be! I have been searching high and low for an advent devotional for my family. Most of them are geared towards adults or older kids (mine are 6 & 4), but this one looks great! Do you think it would be applicable for my kids ages? If not, do you have any other ideas of good ones?
Thanks!
Jennifer
This book is very sweet. It is also very conversational. And the readings are short. My girls range in age from 11-1. I use it over lunch to drop ideas in their heads and hearts. Love the conversation starters too! You could look ahead in the book, and print up coloring pages to go along with it if you wanted to. The best part about it, is that if you miss day – there are no worries. Each reading stands on its own.
So I think your kids would love it. More importantly as a busy mom – you will love it and be filled up! So glad to meet you Jennifer! I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
