I made prayer Bibles for my girls for Christmas and shared about it recently on social media. I have to admit, I am not all that crafty, and my girls have said my handwriting leaves something to be desired. So, I was hesitant to show and tell the final product. But, in the end, this became a special project that I thought might encourage someone else who feels a little challenged in the creative zone to take a step of faith and make a meaningful gift.
Remember our “It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful?” 15th Birthday Party that went viral on Facebook? Well, this is part 2. (Again, I owe a big thanks to Myquillyn Smith aka “The Nester”for her inspiration to do it anyway.
This idea started last summer as I was thinking about my new book Praying for Teen Girls coming out this Spring. I wanted my girls to get these prayers first. I wanted them to know that as I was writing and praying, I was thinking about them.
I found this idea in various places, but I modeled mine after Selah Way Sisters. She did an amazing job of walking me thorugh how to make mine on her YouTube channel.
I used my book as a prayer guide. You can do that too if you have teen girls. The book comes out on 4/22/25. You can also use another book or a list of your favorite prayers.

Supplies: (Affiliate Links Included)
- ESV Journaling Bible
- Praying for Teen Girls
- Mr. Pen Highlighters
- Page flags
- Fine point pen (I used an erasable pen – by Pilot)
- Sharpie permanent fine point marker
- Name plate (I think I found these ate Michaels)
- Vintage book marks
- Stickers
- Scrapbook Paper ( I picked out a few sheets from Michaels)
- Large paperclips
- Cute ribbon (Michaels)
Here are the basic steps:
- Locate your Bible Verses. I have 90 verses in Praying for Teen Girls. You might have more or less.
- Highlight Bible Verses. I used a couple of different colors – but didn’t go crazy with the varieity.
- Sort the verses by topic. I used the chapter titles of my book as a prompt (Humility, transformation, Heart, etc.)
- Add the topic to the frontmost flags – which I put on the cover page. (see picture)
- Flag the page on the opposite side of the verse. Each flag needs to line up by topic. The flags are different shades of similar colors, so it ends up looking great. This took quite a bit of time. You can purchase a page flag guide from Selah Way Sisters to make this process go faster. I will do that next time, but they weren’t available when I started this process.
- Write out each prayer next to the verse
- Add fun bookmarks
- Write notes and put throughout the Bible
- Add “extra pages” to go with special prayers and or themes using scrap book paper. I used a glue stick to secure these in place
- Optional – add a creative cover. I chose not to because (again) I’m not very artistic. You could do something fantastic I’m sure or have a friend do it.

I did this 4 times because I have 4 girls. Two of the aren’t even teenagers but I’ve been praying for them just the same. That’s 360 verses and prayers total. It took me every spare minute from October to nearly midnight on December 24th ti finish it. It was good for my heart to soak in these Word-driven prayers. They all cried when I gave them these Bibles. I cried too.
I hope they know at the end of the day, I’m praying for them the most, and I will never stop.
