This week we are continuing the discussion of The Grace of God, by Andy Stanley with a look at chapters 5-8. You can read last week’s post covering chapters 1-4 by clicking here.
I am like…
- Rahab – learning to live from the starting point of grace and wear my label – Forgiven, Accepted. Loved. (89)
- David – realizing that God’s promises are anchored not in my behavior but by the One who made the promise. (97)
- Jonah – wrestling with the competing implications of grace: I stand in need of it, but at times I’m slow to extend it to others. (108)
These stories are my story. I’m so grateful real people are splashed across the pages of Scripture in full living color. God doesn’t try to pretty it up. But, He does take their stories and cover them with His limitless grace.
My favorite quote from this section of the book comes on page 104. It says:
“He (Matthew) saw in Jesus the grace David experienced. Grace that could absorb the full measure of sin. Grace that could absorb the sin of the world.”
So when I …
- am believing the lies of the enemy that I have to be perfect to be loved…Grace absorbs that.
- know better but choose my own pleasure over God’s plan…Grace absorbs that.
- struggle with giving grace to those who don’t do things my way…Grace absorbs that, too.
What about you? Where do you see yourself in these stories? Do you know grace absorbs your sin? Do you know it is limitless? Have you experienced the Grace of God?
“Where sin…abounded, grace…superabounded” Romans 5:20 (AMP)

You would love it Amy! So glad you stopped by today!
I, too, am so grateful real people are found all throughout Scripture. Just being able to read their stories is grace!
I really like your word picture of “grace absorbing”.
So unworthy… but then I’m discovering that’s what makes it grace.
