Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Pray With Me This Christmas!

5 Years of Threadbare Prayer

There is something about October that pulls my heart back to simple prayers. I suppose it might be because my wandering heart has been tuned to this song of lament over and over again. A few years ago I started writing Threadbare Prayers on my blog during a wilderness...

What To Say When You Are Not OK

Q.  "How should I respond to people who ask me how I'm doing? I don't want to be false and just say, "Fine" but then again I don't want to whine or complain to everyone either." - Robyn This is a question my sweet new friend Robyn from Zambia asked last week. I...

When The View from Where You Sit is Rather Grey

"The view from where I sit is rather grey." - Elizabeth Bennet Pride and Prejudice (the movie, the new one, not the old one)  Grief is a strange thing. For some strange reason it keeps coming back to me in images of water. Initially, I felt like I was in an ocean of...

An Ocean of Grief

Every Christmas my dad would sit in the same hard back chair in our living room and watch the girls open their gifts. For the past 4 years this little one has been in his lap. This was the only picture I took of him this year, other than the mandatory family photo...

When You Need to Arise and Go #livethankful

Have you ever said yes to something and not known why in the world God wanted you to? Have you thrown up your hands in desperation and cried a tear or two because why does He bother with you in anyway? But you arise and  you go, and in the going you see how He knew...
