Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Pray With Me This Christmas!

Distractions can pull us in all directions at Christmastime. It's hard to figure out how to celebrate the birth of Christ in a meaningful way when there are gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and events to add to the calendar. But what if right now, we made a plan to be...

Hey friends! It’s November! It's time to give thanks and gather with your people! New here? What I’m Loving Right Now is a link based list that I curate from things I love and use in my real every day life. I started sharing these items in my emails and...

5 Years of Threadbare Prayer

There is something about October that pulls my heart back to simple prayers. I suppose it might be because my wandering heart has been tuned to this song of lament over and over again. A few years ago I started writing Threadbare Prayers on my blog during a wilderness...

What I Wore: The Scarf Post

I am seriously considering moving What I Wore to Fridays. I know this is a big change, and I think we all love Wednesdays and the What I Wore goes so well with the "W" day of the week. But here is the thing. Friday just seems like a What I Wore day. Plus, I have a bit...

"Hope" The Continuing Story

I remember asking Brooke in the beginning days of "Hope for the Weary Mom" if she was she was OK with being connected to me for the rest of her life or at least the next few years or so. She smiled and said, "I'm OK with that!" I'm so glad she said yes! This is us...

What I Wore

It is nearly 11 PM on Tuesday night and I'm writing this post because last week I did not stay up until 11 PM on Tuesday to write my What I Wore post. I skipped it. I was a skipper. I do promise I wore stuff ( my boots mostly) and maybe even some of the things in this...

Why This Moment is a Gift

She followed me around the entire day. If underfoot had a definition this was surely it. Four years old and she would rather sit with, on, or beside me than anywhere else. I treasure this, but at times it can be a little much. In one of those moments I looked down and...

Lately

About two weeks ago I sent this picture and a text to a friend and said: "Can I wear leggings at 42?" She said yes as long as my back side (ahem) was covered. I bought them. Something I've prayed over, waited on, and cried over became a real live moment in my life.  I...

Coming Back to Gratitude

It is time to come back to gratitude in this space on Mondays. It hasn't felt the same here since I stopped recording gifts. I have missed the simplicity of remembering, celebrating, and list making. So today, on a super normal January 20, 2014, I'm starting a new...

What I Wore: Latest Stitch Fix

I waited for 2 whole months for my latest Stitch Fix. Apparently the busy worker bees at Stitch Fix have gotten very popular. Then the Winter Storm of the decade caused my little white and green box to delay a bit longer. So, when it finally arrived I might have been...
