Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Pray With Me This Christmas!

Distractions can pull us in all directions at Christmastime. It's hard to figure out how to celebrate the birth of Christ in a meaningful way when there are gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and events to add to the calendar. But what if right now, we made a plan to be...

5 Years of Threadbare Prayer

There is something about October that pulls my heart back to simple prayers. I suppose it might be because my wandering heart has been tuned to this song of lament over and over again. A few years ago I started writing Threadbare Prayers on my blog during a wilderness...

The Joy Dare

"It’s habits that can imprison you and it’s habits that can free you and when thanks to God becomes a habit, so joy in God becomes your life". (Ann Voskamp, from A Holy Experience) Weariness for me is a habit of my heart. I get bogged down by the things of life...

For The Days When You Would Rather Not

Some days you feel it. Some days you don't. And on the days you would rather not, you need to remember two things: Why you started in the first place. Jesus is for you and He is praying for you. Okay, so technically that is 3 things. But I'm guessing if you take a...

What I Wore

Woosh!  Did you hear that? It is the sound of the month of August whizzing by! I can't believe next week is Labor Day. You may have noticed that my What I Wore posts have been few and far between this month. Who has time to take pictures when you have to organize the...

"Worship rolls out the red carpet for the presence of the Lord."  Pricilla Shirer. The Joy Dare is finding 1,000 gifts in 2012. 717. Sewing pointe shoes. 718. Getting into our school year groove. 719. Molding little hearts. 720. Singing bedtime songs with my toddler -...

A to the Men

"The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen." Revelation 22:21 ::: I finished reading the entire Bible yesterday in 88 days. Yes, I cried. I am overwhelmed and grateful for the journey. From my first note, "And God said...." (Gen 1:9) to the last listed...

The Joy Dare

Summer waves goodbye and we say hello to more purpose driven days. As we sharpen #2 pencils and rush to ballet class, I wonder how in the world I'm going to get it all done.  But then, I am reminded that He is Lord of it all and the craziness is evidence that we live...

The Joy Dare

I go to the store for frozen berries, because I haven't had the fresh picked kind for years. I dig for my favorite cookie dough pie crust recipe that is simply labeled "Gayle's Pie Crust", mix it up by hand and pour those sugared store bought berries inside. I have...

She Did What She Could

Mark 14:6" She has done a beautiful thing to me. .. She did what she could." What does He ask of me? He only asks of me to do what I can do.  And what can I do? I can love my family. I can teach my kids. I can pray. I can study God's Word. I can encourage women. I can...
