“The hardest part of writing is writing.” – Nora Ephron
I love this quote. Thank you Nora. Simple and to the point. I’ve been writing words lately in the too few nooks and crannies of my life. I’ve chased words and stared at the blank screen. Frustrating. I’ve had words find me when I absolutely had no time or place to write them down. I then quickly forgot them. Also frustrating. I desperately want to write words that matter and move hearts closer to Jesus. Some days, I just don’t have much left to give. It has not been easy. But who says God’s calling on your life is supposed to be easy?
“The hardest part of mothering is mothering.”
See it works here too. My life is a crazy mix of mundane and beautiful. Laundry? Mundane. Girls who tell you they love you? Beautiful. I don’t do the mundane well and at times I mishandle the beautiful, too. Frustrating. Mothering is hard. Also, frustrating. I desperately want to move the hearts of my girls closer to Jesus every day. Some days I don’t have much left to give. It has not been easy. But who says God’s calling on your life is supposed to be easy?
Girls, we are way beyond living easy. We get to live grace. And the beauty at the end of the day is somehow it works. I mother. I write. I make dinner. They say prayers at bedtime and I am being sanctified by Jesus through it all.
xo,
Stacey
P.S. Need hope for the hard parts of mothering?

“But who says God’s calling on your life is supposed to be easy?” … I love this! So true! And once we recognize this, there is so much freedom. Happiness doesn’t hinge on being carefree … it depends on our confidence in Him and what He is doing in our lives!
Thank you for the post!
Yes, yes! “I enjoy having written.” 🙂 And mothering is hard because it matters so much. We are nurturing eternal souls, but what that often looks like on the average Tuesday is feeding someone lunch (really? you need this meal again? didn’t I just make it yesterday?) or driving someone somewhere or hand-washing a ballet leotard for dance class. Thank you , Stacey, from one mom of girls to another!
