Emily Freeman is hosting a link-up today called “Things I Learned in June” so I thought I’d play along. And let’s be honest, since it is summer and June is a month my brain usually goes on a long vacation, I’m way impressed I learned something. Plus, you all know my stalking love for Emily. I’m always game for her ideas.
- The Voice Translation of the Bible by Thomas Nelson is amazing: I love it and find my heart drawn to read it every day. I’m walking through Psalms this summer and the language of this translation has captured my heart. I use it alongside the English Standard Version and or the New Living Translation. Are you familiar with this new translation?
- I can live without Instagram: This month I took one for the team and deleted Instagram from my phone. My team meaning one of my girls. All I will say about the “Why” is it was for her and that decision was easy. She is worth it. In the days since, I have missed it, but not mourned it. I miss it the way you would miss people watching at Disney. I like being able to see life happening with people I internet with. But really, I
likelove my girl more. So if you’ve wondered where I went over there, now you know. - My Nice and Easy hair color really is Light Golden Brown and not Light Neutral Brown: I learned this trial by error and will proudly bring back the Light Golden goodness in about 6 weeks.
- You can reinvent the wheel or blog and people will like it: I hatched a plan a few month ago to revamp the Mothers of Daughters blog into something completely different than it was before. The new “blog” is really a monthly magazine that publishes once per month (2nd Tuesday) with one newsletter (4th Tuesday). All posts go live together – for maximum reading enjoyment. Next month, Emily is going to be a featured guest. Now that is super cool, right?
- If you want to write a book tell everybody to stop by on Mondays: This was a great idea when it started until I ran out of pre-written chapters and started panicking a little bit on Fridays. But, as it turns out panicking is a good writing prompt for me and right now we are moving towards Chapter 6 of “How to be Ok With Where You Are” and it is actually being written.
- How to make Brownie in a Mug: What, you don’t know either? It is yum. Just do it. Yes it really cooks in 1 minute and 4o seconds and your kids will think you are awesome.
This may be all I learned in June. It is possible something else slipped by me, but I think this is pretty significant. Did you learn something in June? I’d love to hear about it in the comments…
xo,
Stacey
Adore your list, friend. And I want to come sit by you poolside and eat a brownie out of a mug.
Much love to you!
I had not thought of actually taking the brownie in a mug to the pool. You are genius. –xo
I learned the hard way, through posting a photo of my kids without their permission on my blog, that its always a good thing to ask first. I’m not sure if that is what happened with you on Instagram, it just made me think about my own scenario. I’m always shocked when they say yes now. I’m going to have to get over to Mothers of Daughters and see what you are up to. Sounds great and I need the community. I love how all your girls have long beautiful locks like yours. So cute.
Hi! I love your list! Funny…this month I deleted a silly game from my iphone and ipad. It is one that is all the rage. I noticed it was consuming me and many others. In a moment I just deleted it. Liberating! I do not miss it and I am thankful that I realized what a time waster it was. One of my children is at that point with instagram. I need to share my feelings. Im not sure that I can convince him to delete it, but a break may be enough to show him what a time waster it has become for him too.
Brownie in a mug sounds fabulous. I have also recently seen muffins in a mason jar!
I am looking forward to coming back to read your Monday posts. Great idea to keep you on task!
Have a great weekend!
🙂 Jen
Great list! I love the Brownie in a Mug idea. Yum 🙂
I am having lots of fun visiting everyone who linked up over at Emily’s today. So glad she decided to this!
I have 4 girls as well, and well…it is fabulous!!! Excited about your No Instagram phone now…I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram so I get why you did it.
Happy dancing over here in NC for your bravery.
I have really enjoyed reading your Monday posts! Panicking is always good motivation for me too. 🙂
And as a bonus, you get to read it again when I send it to you for editing! Yeah Sandra!!! Get your “That” highlighter ready friend!
I love your little story about instagram, especially because I have daughters.
The only thing that stops me from always doing hair color at home is the trial-and-error part. It’s reassuring to hear from people who’ve successfully found “their” shade. I know it’s not a life-changing thing, exactly, but it sure is nice to get it right. 🙂
I have used a few different hair colors – 2-3 but always go back to Light Golden Brown. I asked my stylist years ago and she told me what color to look for, what to avoid and it has been spot on! This time, I was trying to go less red, because I heard that “Red” fades quicker and my grey hairs have been really aggressive lately. So I thought this may be the solution. But, I’m not crazy about the shade so back to my old faithful!
So, I have always wanted to try the brownie in a mug thing….thought it sounded too good to be true. Maybe I should give it a shot!!! The new MOD looks great!!!! (clearly, I still love exclamation points!)
Danielle add a scoop of ice cream and it is super good! Miss you!
I pretty much need to connect with you… 🙂 I think somewhere, somehow we’ve connected with blogs/social media in the past.. I love your list. And especially about the book writing process you’re doing.
