She is wearing one rain boot, crazy hair and breakfast on her face. I call her my beautiful mess. Cause, she is both. Five days ago, she turned two. God has already written His promise for her heart:
…He, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Philippians 1:6
I smile and wonder, is He so committed to me, too? I mean, I’m a mess, really. Sometimes….
- My kids eat pizza for more meals than they don’t.
- I tweet more than I talk to my husband.
- I want to hide at Starbucks.
- My voice can be heard by every neighbor within several houses.
- I worry.
- I don’t cry and I wonder is something wrong with me?
- I can’t stop crying.
- I want a friend to call, but I also want to be alone.
- and I could go on and on.
I have so far to go. But, if I believe the Bible, and I do, then I can’t pick and choose which parts. He is the way, the TRUTH, and the life. So, even when I think, surely, I am the only one that will remain a mess forever, He swoops in with a promise like this:
My name is Alpha. My name is Omega. And I always finish what I started. It may not be in your timing. It may look the way you think. But I will finish it. Check the text. It is written.
Are you a mess, too? Do you wonder if you will ever get to where He says you will? My sweet sister, He wants you to know, though you see yourself as a mess, He calls you beautiful. He will finish what He started. And I’m talking to you, and I’m talking to me. Let’s believe it, together, ok?

Where have I seen that list before? Oh yeah, in MY head. I can so relate! What a great reminder that God takes our “mess” & turns it into beautiful things.
You mean sometimes Pizza is always what’s for dinner at your house? 🙂
He does His best work in my mess – that is when I allow Him to!
Have a super Monday.
Yes, yes, yes. The way He sees us is not at all how we see ourselves. It is exactly what I spent two hours teaching and discussing last night with almost a dozen teen girls. Our topic was beauty (http://www.moretobe.com/redefining-beauty/). Beauty as God sees us. Not according to our own perspective. Not according to the world. It’s exactly what you are talking about here. Thanks!
I love that Truth – that He sees us as the completed work! But, He steps into our present and makes our messy, crazy haired life beautiful!
Thanks for stopping in on Monday Lisa!
Oh, yes. Mess mess messity mess. Sinner saved by grace. So grateful for that.
Mess, mess, messity, mess. Yes, me too!
Let’s believe it together! Because two messes are better than one. And all of us combine are a true reflection of His beautiful creation. Thank you for allowing me to be my messy self in this precious place of encouragement.
Because two messes are better than one! {smile} and be sure to stop by on Thursday for more on that theme!
I believe that I am a mess most days. So thankful that He always finishes what he starts.
Oh…I have been such a mess lately. And the yelling? It’s coming out of nowhere…I’m ready for this weekend to rest, recharge, and refocus.
But I needed these words today. Thank you…see you soon! 🙂
Me, tooo!!!!! Can’t wait to be a sponge!
Thanks for sharing. I think anytime we are able to admit that our lives are a mess that is the invitation for a holy moment. I am a mess too and I have to remember that it was in the midst of her mess that Rahab was used of God to serve His purposes (Joshua 2). I want that kind of good to come out of my life too for my family.
Beautifully blessed by your post, my friend…
Oh my goodness…
This was breathtaking…
Perfect in every detail…
Wow.
(SO glad I follow Stef’s re-tweet!!!)
I call my life a “beautiful mess” because I’m always learning, and God always teaching. Life isn’t perfect, yet…. but until then, I have to keep on learning.
Thanks for this encouraging post 🙂
Umm…I do every single thing you mentioned in that list and I rolled about the neighbors. Sometimes I forget about them…:) Can’t wait to see you!
OH – I have a PERFECT husband for that beautiful mess. He’s a beautiful mess as well but I’m training him to be an AWESOME spouse…Just sayin’…Forced him to bring in groceries today because “that’s what you should do for your wife someday.” He’s three. Never too early to start.
Oh my word – I love it! And she will need a husband just like that! I’ll bring a picture to Relevant with me of more than just her boot! 🙂
