Today, I achieved a handful of mom victories. . .
- I chased a black lizard out of my house with a broom. Lizards are basically tiny snakes with feet. A house full of girls does not think they are cute and neither do I.
- I cut gum out of my five year olds hair. It looked like a layer in her cute new short hairdo instead of a hatchet job.
- I also wrestled the dishes back into the dishwasher and the sink was empty for the most part for 30 minutes.
So I made a cup of tea and added whipped topping to celebrate.
But Monday was not worth celebrating in any sense of the word. Except for the fact that I was able to stumble through it without injuring anyone. I was bone deep tired. My friend Robin is right, “It is incredibly hard to be Spirit-filled when you are tired.” I understand the struggle. I live it.
But God says this:
No matter how I feel, the truth is still true. God is marching me to victory under his banner. How often? Always. I didn’t feel marched to victory on Monday, but the pull of this promise is powerful.
“In ourselves we are weak, and have neither joy nor victory; but in Christ we may rejoice and triumph.True believers have constant cause of triumph in Christ, for they are more than conquerors through him who hath loved them, (Rom. 8:37.) ” – Matthew Henry
Friends, even on a Monday Christ is our banner of victory. In the process we have real hope. We can trust that when we are weak in our own skin, we already have true joy in Christ. Our victory and joy are not based on what we do (or don’t do) or how we feel. Our victory is rooted in Christ and what he has already accomplished in our redemption. When we lean into him on our toughest days, the beautiful fragrance of Christ spreads to every corner.
In our kitchens.
At our tables.
As we put our kids to bed.
They breathe in Christ because he is leading their mom to victory.
Let’s declare this truth over our hearts on the hard days. Like Monday. Especially on Monday, we can stake our lives on it.
Press on my sweet friend.
Press on.
xo,
Stacey
