Everything started here
I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.
It was through learning to write and create content there (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.
Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are bookish by nature.
But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.
And I suspect I always will.
U + God = Smile
On Friday I took my girls to Epcot and walked "around the world' on the most amazingly beautiful day. We had the best time. Early in the afternoon we noticed the sky coming alive with a message and the park abuzz with excitement. Standing in the happiest place on...
What I Learned in February
Oh February. Your 28 days has proven to be a tail kicking amazingly hard but good month. I'm grateful and here are a few things I learned this month while holding on for dear life. 1. My husband is the best photographer. He transformed our living room into a...
Partnering to #EndItNow
Today, all over Social Media there is a call to share the#enditmovement and shine the light on human trafficking and slavery. You might even see people around town with red "x's" drawn on their hands. Awareness is key. But today, I don't want to stop there. I...
One Way Not to Grow Forgetful
She left it on the bed when I was trying to grab a desperately needed Sunday nap. "Tea and cookies for you mommy. I'll leave it here." She bounced out of the room like the Tigger she is and I cracked my eyes open to see the sweetest offering for her weary mom. And...
What I Wore: Survival Kit #mystyle
Recently I had the nice folks at Red Envelope ask me about my style and if I would include a post for What I Wore on the subject. Because I like to pretend I'm a fashion blogger I took on the challenge. But then I had to answer this question? What is my personal...
For the Girl Who Feels Like She is Holding the Weight of the World
I see it in your eyes as you force a kind smile and simultaneously hold back tears when I ask you how you are doing. "Don't ask me how I'm doing and really mean it, because I might just tell you the truth. If I do, I will not be able to hold it in any longer," you...
Exhaling
One week ago everything in my life came to a screeching halt. I packed my bags and witnessed nothing short of a miracle in my dad's life. Yet, upon returning home, I found myself somewhat lost and wondering aimlessly through my days. I was behind on every mommy task...
What I Wore
Happy February 14 friends! I trust you will be setting aside any calorie counting and enjoying you favorite treat with your favorite people. Here at our house we have a tradition of having dessert for dinner. I think tonight it will be blackberry pie for my guy and...
When You Think You Know the Plan, Sometimes You Don't
Sometimes we think we know where we are going and what we are going to do, and we find out we really don't know for sure. I had no idea I'd be on a plane Friday to go to Indiana to be with my family during my dad's emergency surgery. My plans for the week looked more...
What I Wore
I'm writing this from the airport at zero dark thirty hours. Today, I'm pretty much wearing every bit of clothing I own because I'm heading north to be with family. I think it is -35degrees there. I grabbed this coat from the Juniors Department at Macy's. It was half...
