Everything started here

I started writing on a blog called 29 Lincoln Avenue sixteen years ago. The name for my first blog came from the street address of the home I grew up in a small town in Southern Indiana. I loved the idea of inviting you into my “blog home” every week.

It was through learning to write and create content there  (and then here) that I discovered my love for words and my voice as a writer. When I started, Twitter and Facebook were the  rage and blogging found a unique place that would be writers (like me) were able to practice publishing more than a handful of words at at time.

Through blogging I started writing books. I am eternally grateful for that opportunity to put something more of my heart in the hands of those who are  bookish by nature.

But even with Instagram, youTube, and every other social media option out there—I still love to add a few words here.

And I suspect I always will.

Pray With Me This Christmas!

Distractions can pull us in all directions at Christmastime. It's hard to figure out how to celebrate the birth of Christ in a meaningful way when there are gifts to buy, cookies to bake, and events to add to the calendar. But what if right now, we made a plan to be...

5 Years of Threadbare Prayer

There is something about October that pulls my heart back to simple prayers. I suppose it might be because my wandering heart has been tuned to this song of lament over and over again. A few years ago I started writing Threadbare Prayers on my blog during a wilderness...

I Love "What I Wore"

Thank you Lord for. . . boxed valentines, break and bake cookies, and $5 pizzas. Today would not have happened without one of these three things. In other news, there are no less than three full baskets of laundry in my room waiting to be folded. They have been there...

I Love You More than Ice Cream

I love you more than ice cream. That is saying a lot because I really love ice cream. My favorite is this pretty little thing from Starbucks: Right. From. The. Carton. {oh yeah} so good. What do I love about you? I love your comments. I love that you share my love for...

What I Wore

This week I stood in my closet and tried not to wear a cardigan. I probably wasted valuable time and still ended up wearing a couple few of my beloved faves. I did try. I promise. And to make matters worse this arrived via email: Clearly Lands End is reading my blog...

Super Bowl God Sized Dreams

Sunday night I watched with everyone else as Jennifer and the kids from Sandy Hook sang, the brothers played, and the lights went off and came back on. Truth be told I was pulling more for Jim than John because he was a Colt back in the day. I thought about my own...

What I Wore

On (un)becoming

This word become has messed with me. I mean really, in other years my word for the year has been all sweet and grace filled. But, become has already gotten all up in my business. Case in point. This quote by Jennie Allen in the book, *“Anything” has stopped me in my...
